María José holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the UCACIS and an arts degree from the the University of Costa Rica. She is currently studying for her Bachelor's degree in psychoanalysis. He also has a has a Diploma in Art Therapy from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Mexico in UCACIS-CR, which led her curiosity into psychoanalysis and the need to combine both disciplines.

In 2015, she founded the Kunsthilft project in Berlin, and continued co-directing and coordinating until 2017. The project is dedicated to serving refugee children through artistic expression workshops with a therapeutic focus.

His interest focuses on the creative processes, communication and the sense of community and belonging. She is particularly passionate about working with at-risk children whom she believes are the most important transformative and changing agents for the strengthening of an integral social models for the benefit of mental health overall.
